Dr. Aziz Alper Biten, Director General for EU and Foreign Affairs, and the accompanying delegation participated in the 74th Session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe, the highest decision-making body of the World Health Organization (WHO) in European Region, held in Copenhagen on October 29-31, 2024.
Delivering a speech at the Committee, Director General Dr. Aziz Alper Biten expressed Türkiye’s assessments on the Health Situation in the WHO European Region and the election of Regional Director, in addition to our general achievements regarding the health system, and our reaction to the recent hospital attack in Gaza and the taking hostages of healthcare professionals, and called for the prevention of inhumane attacks on Gaza. He also congratulated Dr. Hans Kluge on his re-election as the Regional Director.
In the voting of 53 countries in the Committee, Türkiye, Croatia, Ireland and Portugal were elected as members of the Standing Committee of the Regional Committee (SCRC) for a period of three years until October 2027.
Furthermore, the Turkish delegation participated in the 29 October Reception organized by the Turkish Embassy in Copenhagen.
