H.E. Dr. Mehmet Müezzinoğlu, Minister of Health of Turkey with his delegation paid a visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 20 – 22 January 2016 to attend Turkey and OIC assessment meeting on cooperation in the field of health.
H. E. Minister had a meeting with OIC General Secretary Iyad Madani. During this meeting, H. E. Müezzinoğlu expressed that people in the region have a lot of problems such as communicable diseases, hygiene, drinking water and Turkey’s contribution to the regions in need in the field of health would continue increasingly during its Presidency of OIC Health Steering Committee.
Mr. Madani expressed that they believe Turkey would carry out significant projects during its Presidency with its outstanding development and experience in the field of health and they expect Turkey to be more active in other field, like in the field of health within OIC.
At the meeting attended by OIC Science and Technology Unit Deputy Director General Naim Han, OIC Permanent Representative to Turkey Salih Mutlu Şen and other officials, actions to be taken and medium and long term Projects during the Presidency of Turkey were discussed.
At the 4. ICHM held in Jakarta, Indonesia between 22 – 24 October 2013, “OIC Strategic Action Plan on Health 2014 – 2023” was adopted and Turkey was designated as a Lead Country on Disease Prevention and Control.
After 5. ICHM organized in İstanbul between 17 – 19 November 2015, Turkey has taken over the Presidency of OIC Steering Committee on Health for 2 years. To monitor the implementation of the decisions taken at the Ministerial Conference at the OIC and Member States and to shape health policy of the Organization can be listed as primary duties of the Committee among others.
