The Seventy-fifth World Health Assembly, which is the decision-making body of World Health Organization, was held in Geneva, Switzerland on May 22 – 28, 2022. A delegation headed by Minister of Health Dr. Fahrettin Koca represented Türkiye. During the opening ceremony themed “Health for Peace, Peace for Health”, Minister of Health Dr. Fahrettin Koca stated “When human health is in question, we should be united pertinaciously regarding the priorities on human health without discriminating region, race, colour, gender and religion. The process of struggle against Covid-19 is a whole of lessons needed to be worked on from the very beginning. Türkiye has achieved a lot from the first day of outbreak” and highlighted the importance of health and peace.
Conducting bilateral meetings during the assembly, Minister of Health got together with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Minister of Health of Indonesia Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Health of Algeria Dr. Abdurrahman bin Bozid, Minister of Health of Uzbekistan Bezhod Musayev, and Minister of Health of Azerbaijan Teymur Musayev. At the meetings, the evaluations on strengthening cooperation were made.
“Health Emergency Resolution in Ukraine and refugee receiving and hosting countries, stemming from the Russian Federation’s aggression”, concerning health problems in Ukraine and one of the vital items of the agenda, was accepted. Moreover, “Health Emergency Resolution in Ukraine and refugee receiving and hosting countries” was not accepted.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was re-elected to serve a second five-year term as Director-General of WHO at the election ceremony of the assembly.
