The 2nd Meeting of the Heads of National Medicine Regulatory Authorities of OIC Member States took place in Istanbul on 5-7 September 2022. Deputy Minister of Health Assoc. Prof. Tolga Tolunay, Head of Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency Tolga Karakan and Director General for EU and Foreign Affairs Dr. Selami Kılıç attended the meeting on behalf of the Turkish Ministry of Health. Furthermore, OIC Assistant Secretary General Askar Musinov, Heads and Deputy Heads of National Medicine Regulatory Authorities from 40 OIC member states, Director of Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), Directors of Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Idrissa Dia and Ammar Ahmed, and representatives from COMSTECH (Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC) and World Health Organization (WHO).
On the first day of the meeting;
- Medicine Regulation in OIC Member States: Current Situation, Challenges and Chances
- Country Strategies for Regulatory Preparedness and Intervention for Public Health Emergencies: Role of National Medicine Regulatory Agencies in Fighting with Pandemics
- Strategies and Expectations for Development, Production and Management of Vaccines were discussed.
On the second day of the meeting;
- Regulation on Clinical Researches in OIC Member States
- Strategies, Best Practices and Future Plans for Fighting with Fake and Illegal Products were discussed.
At the end of the meeting, Action Plan 2022-2024 which aims to guide the OIC activities in medicines and medical devices for 2022-2024 and Istanbul Declaration which includes general policies were accepted unanimously.
