WHO Regional Committee for Europe –the highest level health organization of the European Region - started in Rome. During the four-day meetings, the most basic health problems of the European Region will be discussed and important decisions will be taken regarding the actions of the WHO in the region. Such critical public health issues as communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, health systems strengthening, health emergency preparedness and response and health financing will be discussed during the meeting.
Italian Prime Minister Guiseppe Conte, Denmark Princess Mary, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab are attending the meeting.
Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey is attending the meeting with a very strong team headed by Deputy Health Minister Prof. Dr. Emine Alp Meşe. Deputy Health Minister delivered a speech in the General Assembly and touched upon the following issues:
- Expenditures in the primary healthcare services should not be considered as cost but investment,
– Health services provided for the migrants should not be considered as a burden but as a humanitarian responsibility;
- Health services provided by Turkey for the Syrians are accepted as an example by the entire world,
- Universal health coverage can only be attained with the human-centered health services provision.
On the occasion of the meeting, H.E. Deputy Health Minister will share the experiences of Turkey in the field of health with the other countries and hold many high level bilateral meetings regarding the future collaborations.
