The 71st Regional Committee Meeting of WHO Europe was held online on September 13-15, 2021. The meeting was attended by a delegation chaired by Minister Fahrettin Koca. In addition to the health ministers of 53 countries, the meeting was attended by WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr. Hans Henri P Kluge, WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, French President Emmanuel Macron, Crown Princess of Denmark, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, US Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci, and other high-level representatives from UN agencies, funds, and programs, the civil society, multilateral organizations, and other development partners.
At the meeting, member states discussed technical issues such as the COVID-19 response, lessons learned from the pandemic, emergency preparedness and response, preparedness for possible pandemics, primary health care, mental health, 2030 vaccination agenda, climate change and its effects on health, and digital health. Member states also discussed progress in the targets set forth in the European Work Program "Co-Action for Better Health in Europe" adopted in 2020 forming the framework for the Regional Office's work for the period 2020-2025, sustainable financing of WHO and key steps that need to be taken to meet the expectations and health needs of more than 900 million people in the region.
